Troubleshooting

Most problems clear up with one of the fixes below. If yours doesn't, stop by the Technology office or email technology@wra.net with your device type and what you saw.

The sign-in page never appeared after joining WRA-Start

iPhone or iPad: tap the small (i) next to WRA-Start in the Wi-Fi list, then tap < Wi-Fi to go back. The window usually opens right after. If not, forget WRA-Start, wait a few seconds, and join it again.

Mac: the pop-up window can't finish the setup anyway. Close it (Cancel, then Use Without Internet if asked), open Safari and go to pf.wra.net.

Windows: open a browser and go to pf.wra.net.

Android: pull down the notification shade and tap Sign in to network. If there's no notification, tap WRA-Start in the Wi-Fi list and look for a Sign in link, or open Chrome and go to pf.wra.net.

I got a page that says "This device is already set up"

This device already has its certificate. It landed on WRA-Start because it was still saved there. Pick WRA-Secure in your Wi-Fi list, then forget WRA-Start (on iPhone, iPad and Mac you don't have to; the profile already tells them not to auto-join it). If WRA-Secure refuses to connect, turn Wi-Fi off and on. Still stuck? The Technology office can reset the device so you can set it up again.

It says I'm connected to WRA-Secure but nothing loads

Turn Wi-Fi off and back on. If that doesn't do it, restart the device. If it still doesn't load, ask the Technology office; the certificate may have expired or been reset.

The Microsoft sign-in rejects my password

It's the same username and password as your WRA email. Try signing in to email in a browser first: if that fails too, the problem is the account, not the Wi-Fi. If you've just changed your password, wait a few minutes and try again.

Mac: Download Wi-Fi Profile does nothing

You're probably still in the pop-up window. Close it and do the whole thing in Safari at pf.wra.net. Also: while that pop-up is open, nothing else on the Mac can reach the internet, which is why Safari may say "You are not connected" until you cancel it.

Mac: the profile downloaded but I can't find it

System Settings → General → Device Management, under Downloaded. Double-click it there. If it isn't listed, download it again from Safari at pf.wra.net/wireless-profile.mobileconfig (you don't need to sign in again if you just did).

Android: the download opened but nothing asked me to install anything

The download has to happen in Chrome. Copy the page address, open it in Chrome and tap the download button again. Samsung Internet and Firefox don't hand the profile to Android.

Android: the phone keeps going back to WRA-Start

Forget WRA-Start: tap it in the Wi-Fi list (or the gear next to it) and choose Forget.

Windows: "Windows protected your PC"

Click More info, confirm the publisher is Western Reserve Academy, then Run anyway. Windows shows this for any newer app regardless of who signed it.

Windows: the app ran but I'm not on WRA-Secure

Click the Wi-Fi icon and pick WRA-Secure yourself once. If it isn't in the list of saved networks at all, run wra-wifi-setup.exe again from the download page.

I got a new phone or laptop

Run the setup again on the new device. Each device gets its own certificate. Let the Technology office know about the old one if you no longer have it.

I want to remove it

  • iPhone, iPad: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → WRA Wi-Fi → Remove Profile.
  • Mac: System Settings → General → Device Management → WRA Wi-Fi → Remove.
  • Windows: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → WRA Wi-Fi Setup → Uninstall. That removes the network, both certificates and the app.
  • Android: Settings → Wi-Fi → Saved networks (or Wi-Fi preferences → Advanced → Passpoint) → WRA-Secure → Forget or Remove.

After removing it, the device can't join WRA-Secure until you run the setup again.
