WRA Wi-Fi: start here¶
WRA is moving to a new Wi-Fi network called WRA-Secure. Instead of typing your password into the Wi-Fi settings, your phone or laptop gets a small certificate that identifies it. Once it's set up you never sign in to Wi-Fi again on that device, and nobody can borrow your password to get on the network.
What's changing¶
| Network | What it is | What happens to it |
|---|---|---|
| WRA | The network you use today, where you sign in with your WRA username and password | Turns off on Tuesday, January 27, 2027 |
| WRA-Start | A new setup network. You connect to it once, sign in with your WRA account, and it hands your device a certificate | Stays on. Use it to set up each new device |
| WRA-Secure | The new everyday network. Devices with a certificate join it automatically | This is where everyone ends up |
Who needs to do something¶
Your own devices (phone, personal laptop, tablet): yes. Each one needs a three-minute setup on WRA-Start. Pick your device:
School-owned devices (WRA-issued MacBooks, iPads and Windows laptops): no. They switch to WRA-Secure on their own. See School-owned devices.
Chromebooks: personal Chromebooks are not supported on WRA-Secure. School Chromebooks are handled by the Technology office.
Guests: visitors use WRA-Start and pick Guests on the sign-in page. See Guests.
When¶
Setup opens to everyone starting in November. Do it before Thanksgiving break and you're done; the old WRA network keeps working until January 27 either way. You can set up to 10 devices.
What you need¶
- Your WRA username and password (the same ones you use for email).
- About three minutes per device.
- Being on campus, within reach of WRA-Start.
What the setup actually does¶
It installs a Wi-Fi certificate for your device and the WRA-Secure network settings. That is all. It is not device management: WRA cannot see what's on your device, push apps, or change settings. You can remove it yourself at any time from your device's settings, and the certificate expires on its own (students: the June after you graduate; employees: about two years, then you run the setup again).
If anything goes wrong, see Troubleshooting or stop by the Technology office.
